Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

There is no such thing as a false code, only codes that people inadvertently set by unplugging things with the key on.

What engine does this have?

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

These are all lean codes. 90% of the time when I see these codes on a Ford, it's due to a major vacuum leak. Listen for a hissing noise at idle and try to follow it to it's source. It's very common for the rubber tubes, elbow and connectors to suck a hole right through them.

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

The K and E motors are also bad about the upper intake gaskets leaking on those causing rough idle and lean codes. Smoke test would confirm.

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

That indicates that you do have a vacuum leak. now you need to determine what it is. A smoke machine is the best way to find it.

I don't think you're going to get your hands on one of them too easily. They cost $1200 and up.

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

You can always do the Scotty Kilmer and blow cigar smoke into the intake...LOL

Sorry wrong pic... It's got one giant plastic plenum. The lower runners it sits on are part of the cylinder heads.

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

I don't know if the cigar trick would work on that. You could try and let us know. You have to block off the front of the throttle body. It might take a quite bit of smoke...probably enough to turn you green.Shocked

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

I don't smoke, so I am curious if that would really work on this type of leak.

If it does, maybe HT will subscribe to Scotty's videos...LOL

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

As I said, you have a leak. now you have to find it. Unless you sprayed that stuff directly into the throttle body opening, you hit a leak.

Re: Rough Ideal Sign In

You can also spray water around with a spray bottle on stream setting. You'll actually see the water get sucked in. Plastic intake on those sounds like the engine has a vacuum leak because of the air rushing around inside even when there is no vacuum leak. It's hard to hear vacuum leaks on those unless it is a huge vacuum leak.
