Rav4 Turns but Not Starting

96' Toyota Rav4 2Liter
Girlfriend drove to work, drove home from work, let sit for 7 1/2 hours went to start and it didnt. It turns like it wants to start but it will not. Battery is fairly new, lights and wipers come on. Check engine and other lights come on like normal. Has been driving fine until this point. I went through the step by step diagnose site and none of the things in there sound like my problems. How do I check if theres spark. I dont know too much about this stuff, but dont have the money to take it in.

Checking for spark: There are testers you can put on a spark plug wire at the spark plug end that will flash when spark is present. You could also insert a spare spark plug in a wire and ground the thread/hex part to engine ground and it would spark visually when cranking if spark is available,
