My son drives a 96 Dodge Neon at college. Standard with only 45K on it. Recently the car has developed a serious problem where the throttle sticks at highway speeds. The car can go weeks without having a problem and then will stick at 65mph on the highway. Pulling over and waiting a few minutes will usualy return the speed to normal. It will be more likely to stick over the next hour or so. The throttle has been cleaned and the garage can't find the problem. No error codes have helped. Of course the problem won't happen for the garage because it is not going 65 on the highway. They hesitate to start replacing things but we need to do something. I understand the throttle is controled by a motor on the Neon which must be complicating the diagnosis. Any suggestions would be very helpful and much appreciated.

Idle speed is controlled thru a motor. The gas pedal to throttle body should be a cable that could stick or perhaps if it has cruise control there could be a problem with that but less likely,
