Primera loses power

Hi Everyone..(nissan primera W reg (year 2000) 2litre auto) ..2 months ago engine light came on while driving ..then car slowed down by it self...couldnt accelerate even tho revs went up and up....garage scanned computer...replaced STEPPER MOTOR (in gear box).works fine.. Recently it happened again but this time i stopped car and rested 10 mins then it went back to normal.. is something over-heating or other problem ? Cant afford another big garage bill...Please help/advise ..Many Thanks ..Andy/London
