My 92 Ford Aerostar, 135k, 4.0 Van was getting 18-mpg.,now only gets 10-mpg.I changed Spark Plugs,Wires,Air Filter,Fuel Filter,O2 Sensor, and changed the throttle position sensor. There is also a slight vibration at idle and at random when I let off the gas.I don't know where too go from here, any advice, info.,help, suggestions would be deeply appreciated. Thanks alot! With you doing all of the basics, it’s time to get a scan tool connected and monitor inputs from the sensors. As in one example does the O2 sensor agree with what we know that the engine is using too much fuel or being over fueled? Even though you’ve replaced the O2 is it constantly giving the computer a lean indication? Coolant temperature sensor is it reading the actual engine temp or is it shorted giving a constant low temperature reading to the computer. A shorted coolant sensor or any sensor for that matter doesn’t always mean a code will be set, not if the readings are with in the sensor’s perimeters. The computer doesn’t know any better and thinks ok the engine is cold send more fuel to keep it running. Speaking of engine temperature does the engine come up to temperature, thermostat? Then there are things like the mass air flow sensor, leaking injectors, weak ignition coil the list of things that could be isn’t a short one. Where to start, maybe taking the van in and have someone with experience with test equipment and Ford systems and have it diagnosed? It’ll likely be cheaper then throwing parts at the van. Dan.
