Pontiac wont start

My 1996 Pontiac Grand Am, 2.4 engine, 155,000 Mileage, Wont start, it will crank over but will not start. Before this all the icons on dash came on and stayed on. The alternator was replaced last winter. There is no fuel getting to the engine, checked the fuel line on engine. The diagnostic tool said it was the fuel sensor, it was replaced and still it wont start. Can hear the fuel pump running

The dash cluster on that car is a component of the Passlock security system and there is a very good chance that the cluster has gone bad and it locking out the security system. Your going to need a Tech2 scan tool in order to diagnose it properly.

I have done the reset with the key on and unhooking the battery trick. The fuel filter and a fuel sensor was replaced. There is fuel to the engine, we also checked the map sensor and still cranks but wont start. The diagnostic tool now says something about the manifold.

The best bet would be to start from scratch on this.
1st thing would be to spray some carb clean down the throttle body and make sure the engine will start & run on that. This way you know the ign side of things are good and it's just a straight fuel problem.
Next step would be to take a fuel pressure reading and see what the pressure is or if there is no pressure. Also get a noid light & check for injector pulse.. Get the codes pulled and post them ....
To help us out we need exact info.... Stuff like "it said something about the manifold" is of no use.

You are right, after checking everything it is the dash cluster. We took it out but put it back in and the car started and ran...so far..need to find one.

I wouldn't try a used one. I believe they are programmed with the VIN of the car and will not communicate when put in a different car.
