I own a 1991 Jeep Cherokee (4.0L) and need help please. The problem was a water leak dripping from the center of the engine. Then it over heated and died. When I took it into the shop they said the freeze plugs were leaking all 3, they replaced them along with a new radiator after breaking off the drain stem while draining it, total cost $1,141.49. After it was repaired I saw small puddles on my driveway under the center rear of the engine, thinking it was from the airconditioner and just a small amout I wasn't concerned. But after driving only 131 miles after the first repair it over heated and died again. Now when start it, I see coolant flowing out heavily onto the ground from the center rear of the engine. What could the problem be and how can I present it to the repair shop, since I just spent over a thousand to repair the problem? Please help. Thanks, Burton

You can try bringing it back to the shop that repaired it, unless you don't trust them anymore. If it's in the rear of the engine, it could be a hose, heater control valve, or a heater core. Underneath the car on the passenger side you will see a small rubber tube protruding through the floor board. This is the A/C drain line. If the coolant is coming out of there you have a leaking heater core. If the antifreeze is entering the cab (wet rugs and floors) that too is a leaking heater core. With the engine off, crawl underneath the front of the engine and look up at the bottom of the water pump with a flashlight. If you see coolant or stains running down the pump, the coolant is coming from the pump but blowing back under the engine when you drive. Inspect the pump carefully, Jeeps are known for leaky water pumps. Let us know what you find. P.S. Autozone has a tool loaner program. If you can get a pressure test guage that is the best way. Pump the system to about 15 pounds and you should find the leak quickly. Steve

Just note: There are more than 3 "freeze plugs" in an engine! I would do as Steve suggested and pressure test it and it should show right up, T
