Hello to everyone. I was a mechanic for many years, but no longer have the equipment to figure this out. I'm now a broke writer so I don't have the money either. I've got a 95 Jaguar xj6 with a 4.0, with 214,000 miles on it. It developed a slight miss, then it began to fall on it's face just before it shifts. It acts like it's got a rev limiter or governor on it. At first due to the miss i thought it might be an oil leak filling the area where the coils and plugs are, causing it to short one out. I replaced the plugs and repaired the oil leak which normally can cause this. All the plugs were ash white and showed no signs of misfiring. I then replaced the fuel filter, the one on the frame, not in the tank. No change. When it happens the car gives off a smell similar to burnt gunpowder. If you can coax it into changing gears, it seems to run fine and the transmission seems not to be the problem. It simply misses like hell as it reaches the rpm where it changes. It acts exactly like a U-haul truck with a governor on it. I'm stumped and worse I'm broke. Thanks for any help you can give.
