Oil presure light and buzzer going off intermittenly

We have a 1989 VW jetta GL 1.4 llitre 4 cylinder engine. Car has 130,000 miles on it. As my son drivers the car the oil presure light and buzzer goes off, stays on for a second and then goes out. We check the oil and it is full. What could be causing this.

It's telling you that the oil pressure is low and to stop driving. The warning light may be working correctly and it may not. You have to check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to determine that.
