Oil leaking from throttle body?! Sign In

Hi guys. My girlfriends car (vw bora) has been running quite poorly for a while. Losing power etc. the other day it dropped quite a bit of oil. She took it to a mechanic and called me after saying they said replacing the 'throttle body' will sort the leak and probably also the power loss etc as it has probably been letting air in. Now I saved the name 'throttle body' in my phone after talking to her because I thought she's probably forget the name
And alas, when I got home she was claiming 'throttle head'. Don't know where she got that from but is it likely to be the throttle body or throttle head (if that exists on vw boras?). And can throttle bids leak oil? Secondly, she was quote £450 for the job and I have found FAR cheaper throttle bodies online and a 5 min video on how to change them. Is this a good option? Looks very simple and I'm quite practically handed so think I could change the throttle body easily. Or is it the 'throttle head'?? Arghhh!! Many thanks guys

Throttle body is the correct term but I don't understand how he is associating that with an oil leak. The throttle body controls air intake into the engine and has nothing to do with oil.

No year or engine size? Isn't the Bora the same as a Jetta?

If this has a turbo charger, you could have oil leaking from a turbo seal. You could also have a malfunctioning PCV system or excessive blow by pushing oil into the breather pipe.

It's a 2002 1.6 vw bora so it's not a turbo. I wasn't sure how it could be related to the oil leak either but apparently the leak was about a foot squared in size!
