Oil leak 2014 Chevy cruz Sign In

I have a 2014 Chevy Cruze that is using a lot of oil like 3 qts in 100 miles or so. It has started to have a loud knock. Took it to mechanic and was told it had a bad timing belt. I just always thought that the timing belt didn't have oil in contact with it. My question is if anybody knows more about this than me does what the mechanic said make sense?

No, not really. The timing belt will cause a lot of engine damage but not really anything that would cause severe oil consumption.

Make sure your PCV system is working properly. Other than that you are likely looking at serious internal engine damage.

What engine do you have?
The 1.8 L has a Timing Belt

The 1.4 L has a Timing Chain which does have oil contact
The Chain / Chain Guides May be the source of the noise of in fact you have the 1.4
OR As HT said, you could have major Engine damage if it ran low on oil
*** If you have the 1.4 L , Refer to this TSB from GM ***
