Oil Pressure Sign In

I have a problem with a 1999 Explorer with 150K. miles on it. After I changed the oil the other day, The oil pressure guage began to fluctuate and eventually dropped to zero. We removed the sensor on the front nad found it to be covered with sludge. when we screwed a hose onto the opening and started the car, it blew oil out with plenty of pressure. We replaced the sensor, put a can of Seafoam in the crankcase, and started the car back up. the guage returned to normal immediately, but soon began to fluctuate and soon dropped to zero again and will not return. I don't want to go to the trouble and expense to put an oil pump in if I can help it. the car is old and not my necessary transportation, but it's been a good vehicle and I hate to have it broken down. Any suggestions out there?

Re: Oil Pressure Sign In

Have a mechanical test gauge temporarily installed where the sending unit is. This will confirm whether the problem is actual low oil pressure or just an electrical issue with the trucks oil pressure gauge circuit.
