No Electrical Sign In

Electrical problem

1993
Dodge
Grand Caravan
6 cyl Two Wheel Drive Automatic
130000 miles

My battery was bad and I jumped started the vehicle. I reved the engine to charge the battery. During reving everything shut off. Afterward the car would not start at all, and I think there was no electrical to anything (happened a few months ago).

I suspect some (and hope) some sort of main fuse was blown but can't seem to find one.

Thank you.

Re: No Electrical Sign In

This is a little vague....

When you say it won't start. Does it crank over but not start or nothing happens when you turn the key.

Before you get too far, since you were having battery problems already. You may want to pull the battery out & have it tested & charged....

It could be you have a problem with your charging system & the van was simply running on the charge from the jump until that ran out & it died........ Just a guess....

Re: No Electrical Sign In

Sorry. I was trying to cover the explanation by stating that the engine stopped running instantaneously while I reved the engine. And after that there was no electricity to the car at all. So it would not turn over. The lights would not light an anything and everything that uses electricity was in-op in an instant.

I will get a new battery. That is for sure. I may need an alternator too. But I am also trying to figure out if the car has what I know some cars have; that being some kind of main fuse early on the electrical system that can cause all components to not get electricity, including the coil.

Thanks for the help.

Re: No Electrical Sign In

Depending on how old the battery is, you may want to have it tested before replacing it....

The reason I mentioned the charging system is, it takes the most power to start the car. Once you've charged the battery enough to start it, there is enough power for the engine to run, for a short time. If it's not charging, once it's started, the car is running on the battery only. Once the power gets low enough, it dies and there is almost no power left for anything else, definitely not starting.....

If it's not charging there could be a lot of reasons why, a fuse being one them, but the system would need to be checked to know what was causing the problem..........
