Hello folks, new here, hoping for some help. 1997 Chevy Lumina 3.1L V6 150k miles I've had to add water to the coolant tank a couple times in the last month, but I never saw any leaks. Then today I check the oil and it's brown, WAAAY past the full mark on the dipstick, and smells of gasoline. If it's something major, I hate to sink any money into it. I'm pressed for money as it is and would hate to have to get a new car, but I'd hate more pouring money into fixing a car that isn't worth it. Opinions, suggestions? Thanks in advance.

It sounds like you hate all your options. It's very common for the intake manifold gasket to leak into crankcase. The only way to confirm that though is to remove the manifold and examine the gasket. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

NO, if you have water in the oil, you don't want to run the engine at all.
