Got an '85 Chevy pickup 350 V8 turbo 350 trans with a slight rod knock upon starting the motor. The motor knocks about 5 x (knock knock, knock, knock, knock) and then quietly disappears as oil pressure rises. I don't have a functioning oil pressure gauge in the truck, so I am not sure what oil pressure measures. I can also hear the knock ever so slightly when I am driving in first or second gear at a constant rpm (3000?). I can easily remove the oil pan from this truck without pulling the motor out. Question 1). Is there a quick fix for this condition? and if so: Question 2). How do I find the culprit rod? Thank you in advance Tiorunder John

At the age it probably isn't just one isolated bearing. Miles, poor oil history, oil pump problems, sludge etc. Changing oil may help patch it with synthethics if you can get a reasonable oil pressure reading. You may have to mix but perhaps a 15-40 would cover it for an unknown amount of time. I don't know of a quick fix. If truck is worth keeping a whole used motor checked out and known good would be the longer lasting and cheaper fix IMO, T
