Need HELP with a 4.3 Vortec

When the engine has been sitting for a long period it runs fine but doesn't run fine for long.
When it acts up, Irratic idle (R P M surges from 500 to 2,000 R P M) (if it starts) for a few seconds.
It then quits and will crank but won't start.
It has and holds 55+ lbs fuel pressure.
It Is firing on all cylinders.
(I know someone will ask about timing or compression...We eliminated these
by the way it runs, when it funs)
Sometimes it blows blue/white smoke when it starts (only for a few seconds)
Over the past few years (about 5) I have replaced the (spider) 3 times.
Have also replaced Fuel pump along with the sock and filter(2 times).
Have replaced Crank and cam sensors 2 times, possibly 3 times.
Recently we have replaced EGR valve, Coil and igniter, wires, plugs,
both knock sensors(OBDII scanner gave a bad code for these).
The car will now start and run great for about 10 to 15 minutes, and then
it goes back running rough, won't accelerate, idles irratic, quits, and then won't start....
Sometimes after cooling (sitting for awhile) it will start and idle fine for maybe
45 to 60 seconds and just quits. If you give it a shot of starting fluid, it will fire and run
untill solution disapates. (We know this is not a good idea or recommended)
As of this morning...Car will not start
Am I the only one with these problems...
My mechanic is having "night-mares" and threatening solving the problem with gasoline and a match.

You're going to haver to put a scan tool on it and monitor all the data when it starts to go bad to see how the computer is adapting.
