NISSAN RING FAILURE EXPLAINED.........BUT?

I now know what happened to the motor in my friend’s Nissan Murano (see post on 5/21/14). Thanks Discretesignals – I thought that story was complete BS when I first heard it!
So…., the next question is – what was Nissan’s fix, and when did they do it? Did they do it on all affected engines on the same model year? Are there retro upgrades for the earlier models? She is expecting Nissan to help her out of this (somewhat), and wants to be sure not to buy back into the same situation. She prefers the crossover style, but may downsize to the (similar but smaller) Rogue. Did the smaller 4 cylinder engines share the same problem as the V6’s?
