My Cavalier won't start Sign In

This morning after not starting my car (a '96) for 2 days I went out to my car to go to work. I started up but then died right away. I gave it a few more tries and when it would start I put my foot on the gas hoping it'll keep running...no such luck there. A couple more tries and it wouldn't turn over at all so I left my car and 7 hours later gave it another shot. This time it turned over and ran for several seconds longer than before but died again. Could humidity/rainy weather be a factor with this?
This happend with my car last year when we had rainy, humid weather for several days and I paid to have it towed and checked out. That time they guy in the shop said they tried it a few times and it eventually started right up but could me no explanation why it had happend. Any help or insight anyone can give me would be so appreciated. Thanks!

Re: My Cavalier won't start Sign In

Since this can dry out and behave it will be tricky to pinpoint the problem(s) but I would start with using a hair dryer and dry off all secondary wiring (plug wires etc) and coil/dist cap in and out if that engine uses a distributor. If that works let it warm up and drive it to clear it all out. Just trying to start it too much becomes a problem so minimize that when it's clear that it won't run.

If that works then the likely problem is one or more of the items you dried out. Hmmm, which one? When you have time to test it again try with a cool engine spraying salt water (Dan likes that trick) or I use just window cleaner on the parts you dried (when dark is best) and look for arcing or objection when you spray at one item at a time and that should be what is causing this.

Drying it out may not work and be inconclusive. The engine may already be flooded out complicating the problem. If it just behaves all the time you are checking things you simply don't have the answer which stinks because I'm sure you'd like to fix it,
