Mitsubishi Eclipse stall/idle Sign In

2003 Mitsubish Eclpise idle/stall?
I have a 2003 Mit Eclipse RS. Automatic. 90K miles. 2.4L 16 Valve. Car started stalling during deceleration and stop signs. Only would happen while foot not on accelerator. Took to my mechanic. Got 2 Codes. Misfire and Bad O2 Sensor.
Mechanic suggested follow the misfire. Replaced all plugs, electrical box, wires, tune up, oil change $360 later did same thing. Next got second opinion. This mechanic cleaned throttle body and IAC. $120 dollars later same problem. Finally, took to Mitsubishi. They suggested always follow the computer and replace O2 Sensor. $175 later still idles poor. Feels like gonna stall but doesn't. Don't know what to do or where to take next. Thats 3 mechanics NO ROOT cause. Everyone treating symptoms not some tricky cause. Read that only other cause could be small hose that you can only tell is bad when its opened up but seems like long shot.
Anyone have/fixed problem like this please let me know.
(Since 02 sensor change runs better untill A/C turned on
and SES light has come back on)
Please help!!!!
Thanks, Sky

Other Info- 6 months ago- Replaced radiator, therm, all belts $725
4 months ago New battery and housing

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse stall/idle Sign In

3 mechanics and still not right? Mitsu dealer even. Dealer doesn't mean the tech was finding it. SES on again so you need codes read yet again. It just can't hold a proper idle it seems which is greatly the IAC and clean may not be enough it may need to be replaced or was all that cleaning done properly enough? Can't know if 3 mechanics are failing.

Turning on A/C is a fair extra load on engine and if idle can't compensate then it would idle too low and set a code. Codes don't say exactly what to do or replace just what it sees. You can unplug something and get a code that doesn't tell anyone that circuit XYZ is unplugged just that, that is the area of the problem to chase down.

You may need mechanic #4. Does it start up cold and hold a fair idle? Probably not so IMO that IAC either gets wrong info or is bad OR needs all cleaned up again which shouldn't be the world to do.

Even you could do a careful "wiggle" test at idle if it will on assorted vacuum items and wiring connections and if anything changes point that out to a mechanic as it seems you have a clue but don't do your own work,

T

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse stall/idle Sign In

Thanks for quick ideas. The IAC and throttle body were cleaned not replaced. The idle bounced around after that up and down. Unplugged neg battery to reset it. Then it died no idle hold but runs great while driving. Thats when i took to Mitsubishi. the tech took me back and had my "bad" 02 sensor off and had car hooked up to some kind of bypass. The engine was humming great in idle. Showed me on hood suppose to idle between 600-800 RPMs. Thats why I replaced sensor. Could i need to turn the idle UP? I dont know how to do much with cars so maybe ill take it back to Mitsubishi ask them to do it. I brought up 3 mechanics cause on researching this issue ive read some valve may be stuck open. IAC motor fried. MAS bad.. Im just running out of cash. Figured one would say Ahh thats the problem. The SES light is back on after AC turn on and idle dipped. Ill bet its another misfire cause sounds again like its on 2 cylinders. Car runs and idles fine til AC goes on then idle drops. Round and round i go. Anyone know of a Dr House like mechanic in the tampa, Fl area.

Re: Mitsubishi Eclipse stall/idle Sign In

I don't know of any regulars here in Tampa - many in FL but not there.

Again - idle should dip (perhaps a second or two) with A/C - there's the clue too for IAC troubles,

T (off line for some time now - good luck)
