1998 Ford Taurus/3.0 6cylinder/128000 Well had my mechanic spend today looking at my "misfire" and he is kinda leaning towards a bad piston or head gasget. He said he did something called a compression test on the No. 1 cylinder and it was kinda low. What is a compression test and what should be the compression on a 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 6 cylinder car? He said the fuel injector was okay and the spark plugs were okay. When the car engine is excellerated you can not feel any misfire with the "misfire" only being felt when at idle and the engine was warm. So if the compression is low, what can cause that? What can be done to correct it? What damage is being done to the engine? I only spent $450 on the car, it runs just great outside of this issue. If it matters when the old spark plugs were removed and replaced they were very clean and not showing any oil or other materials on any of them.
