9 inch ford pinion loose and has vibration at cruisin speed What do I look for. U joints have been changed.

Dave; If this vibration is at a steady speed, recheck the u-joints. You may have to get the driveshaft re-balanced, especially if the old joints did any damage to the yokes. (and that's no yoke) If you can actually feel play in the pinion, then you're going to have to have the differential looked at. If this vibration is on decel, more than likely it will be a u-joint problem. Just because you don't feel play in a joint doesn't mean it's okay. I could be bound up. You'll need to remove the shaft and feel the joints to see if they move freely, both directions.

loren: the vibration doesn't do it when i excel or decel Just when there no load at or above 60kms. I did what you said and removed the drive shaft and checked it out. The u joints moved not to bad, not super loose but with a little tension is that ok? I also grabbed the pinion shaft this time with the drive shaft off and it still moves Quite a bit.

Yes, a little tension is okay; What you are feeling for is any roughness or binding when you move them all directions. If you feel ANY, it's bad. Are we 100% sure this vibration is coming from the drivetrain? 60kms is about 40mph? I wouldn't think that's fast enough to be a wheel balance problem. Check the tires, themselves, for any 'bubbles' or abnomalities in the tread (broken belts).
