Mazda 3 ts 1.6 petrol 2004 no acceleration or power

Hi all
Please help, about 5 miles from home as I got off the motorway and stopped at some lights, the car wouldn't accelerate and just jerked forward.
Looked at oil and it was dry but never had a warning light, put some oil in but the problem is still there.
Any advice please..

If the oil was dry then it's time to cal a tow truck. You'll probably be looking for a motor.
