Manual trans fluid mixed with oil for cleaning? Sign In

Ok so I just changed the trans oil (manual trans) in my car and i have about 1.5L left of trans oil, i read that alot of people mixed half auto trans oil with half normal engine oil and run for about 500miles to clean out the engine, then change the oil and filter again with full engine oil.

Does this still work with manual (non LSD) trans oil?

my engine only takes about 3L so 1.5L of trans oil is perfect if this does work.

Thanks

I strongly advise against that. The engine's recommended oil viscosity should not be altered in any way because of the tighter tolerances in today's engines. If you start mixing oils, and they don't lubricate properly, it's an expensive lesson learned.

Exactly what steve said..... There is no comparison between gear oil & ATF, two completely different oils. Although I've heard of running ATF in engines I wouldn't suggest it. There are products available to flush the engine, they're installed, run for a few minutes and then drained out with the oil & filter changed....

If the engine has high miles with excessive sludge build up inside I wouldn't recommend even doing that. You could actually do more harm than good. Breaking up & loosing all that sludge could plug up oil ports or pickup screens. I flush engines on a case by case situation

although trany fluid is high in detergent its not made to put in your engine!.
you put autotrans fluid in a mazda rotory engine and in a few months your
looking at changing gaskets and seals was that worth it

thats just one example i seen. trany
fluid belongs in the trany someone has already mentioned also if your
engine has high miles you might depending on frequency of oil changes
have sludge build up where using a engine flush additive will break off sludge and
fall pluging up a passage way in your engine or sump pump screen in the
bottom oil pan you might be taking a big risk i sugest using a good synthetic
oil brand and running an engine for 2.500 miles and then change it along with
filter and then 3500 miles change it again do that a few times thats the safest

way i now of beside using flushing additives in oil.
