I have what I hope is not a major problem with the Transaxle for my 1993 Mercury Tracer Station Wagon (1.9L engine). It is leaking Tranny fluid big time. My wife works only 3 miles from home and when she arrives at work just parks it. When she gets out of work she says it looks like about a quart has leaked out on to the pavement. After she returned home last night I put a bowl underneath where the fluid was dripping and this morning I could see that easily half a quart of fluid had leaked out over night. The fluid is not discolored, it looks like it just came out of the original container. The tranny shifts fine, no problems at all there, no slipping either and funny no noises. Can anyone give me an idea where or in what locations the fluid can be leaking from? I have to add at least a quart of ATF a day and it is only getting worse. I am disabled and on a fixed income and cannot afford to bring it to a service garage (We all know service garages won't take payments). I am hoping it is a seal or gasket that I can replace myself. Please, does anyone have ideas or suggestions as to where I look to find the leak? Thank you.

This is most likely a Mazda product sold by Ford.

Try drying up-wiping up all the areas from the underside with old rags or paper towels and look for the first place for this to start leaking. Could be several things but keep the fluid full and have spare fluid on hand and any funnel needed.

Without knowing where this is from I don't think any of us can venture a guess, T

I have seen a common problem with the axle shaft seals letting go. They are the seals right at where the cv shafts spline into the trans. Also, check that the axle shafts are fully seated in the trans. If they pop out of the locked position, the seal will leak. This is just a common problem I've seen in the past, it may or may not apply to your vehicle.
