2002 Isuzu Axiom XS 3.5L v6 - Distributor-less ignition system, Coil-On-Plug system (each spark plug has its own coil pack) Symptoms are loss of power and misfiring (P0300 random misfire), rough idling, when I put it in gear the RPMs drop to like 600 and sounds like it will stall. Check Engine blinks which means it is having misfires. If I unplug any of the passenger side bank spark plug connectors it basically stalls out, but when I unplug any and all of the driver side bank spark plugs it doesn't stall and you can't really tell the difference. What happen: The water pump went out and the engine overheated. Me and my friend put a new water pump on, but it's behind the timing belt, so I brought it to a garage and had them do the timing. They said they hand cranked it several times and the timing marks were lined up every time. About an hour after this happen, I started it just to move it about 50 feet to another road and left it there. It was running fine. What I have done since it's been out of the garage:
- New spark plugs
- New fuel filter
- New EGR valve (took it back because it didn't fix problem)
Tested:
- Compression (Each cyl was between 168 - 176 PSI)
- Spark, coils (didn't check resistance)
- Fuel pressure (42 PSI, specifications call for 42 PSI - 55 PSI, so we changed the fuel filter just in case)
- Fuel Injectors (~76 OHMs)
- Fuel Injector Connectors (with a NOID), all good
- Air filter is good
Could it be a head gasket even if the compression was good? I don't think it's the cat converter because it ran fine before it overheat.

42 psi sounds low end*. try this check fuel pressure then with KOEO observe fuel pressure drop- lets us know drops xpsi in 5min. plugs - did you use correct plug? do not switch brands. are there ANY other codes- be sure code reader will read all codes. are the plugs on drivers side firing? easier said than done but a can do. might want to look at plugs- wet dry black tan- the flashing indicates cat damage is likely if not corrected soon *if your spec is correct plan on replacing pump as cold weather will be demanding.

I believe they are the Autolite Platinum, part number AP3924. There are no other codes. I have the Actron CP9125 OBD II code reader. Plugs are brand new, I used a spark plug tester on all plug boots and they spark. I'll check the drop in PSI tomorrow. Right now I'm thinking the garage didn't time it right, but the marks were right on all 3 pulleys.. I put it back together and checked them.

your code reader - I think it is limited not capable of all codes esp manufacturers specific, those that could help with cam crank sync. your description suggests driver side is not firing.

Autolite in this engine? Unless something new those are wrong plugs no matter what claims they had, T

Ok, I will switch them out for NGK. I went ahead and brought it to a different garage because the only things I got it down to are timing and cat converter and no way the cat went out like that.. The shop verified that the timing was set wrong. They said the pulleys are spring loaded and there is a certain way you have to do the timing on it. So when it's finished on Monday I will go back to the first garage with the receipt and demand a refund because the timing they set was way off.
