L Series Saturn Timing Chain Sign In

Greetings --

We've got a 2000 L series Saturn and just heard about the timing chain issues with the 4 cylinder engine. The car is running fine, but the situation is a worry, since some folks have reported timing chains failing without warning.

The cars has 92K miles, and has been run on synthetic oil since break-in. Does anyone have any experience on just how often these things fail? We're trying to decide whether to have this replaced pro actively, given that a timing chain failure leads to major engine damage.

Thanks,
Mark

Is this a rubber belt or a chain? The belts need periodic replacement at about 60K and can fail without warning. Chains usually last longer. What is the suggested change or inspect interval in the owner's manual?
