The engine idle is very unstable - rev from 900 to 2000rpm - even when the car is hot. It doesn't occur all the time and happen randomly. Does anyone has experienced a similar problem and could help me finding the cause(s)? Thank you. Vincent Hammer Time Ultimate Carjunky / Moderator Sep 15, 2011, 3:10 AM Post #2 of 3 (1651 views) Re: Jumpy engine idle - Mazda 626 year 93 Sign In  You may have a bad IAC ( idle air control) but try eliminating any vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body first. Remove the intake snorkel, have someone hold the throttle wide open for you and scrub the back side of the throttle plate and surrounding bore with an old tooth brush and some carb cleaner. Be sure to spray some into the small holes next to the throttle plate. That should help stabilize the idle.
