1996 Jeep Cherokee Country Automatic 4.0L. 95,000 mi. will not crank.

I have two problems with this vehicle:

- The first is that it will not turn over. When i've taken it to a mechanic they have changed the battery terminals which will fix the problem only until it has been driven off their lot and then it will not crank a few days later. when i get the battery jumped the engine will turn over but then the second problem acts up...

- The car wont idle, my dashboard lights up but the engine wont start. i can feed it gas and the engine revs but as soon as i drop my foot off the pedal the car is silent.

this has been a recuring problem on and off for months. just now has it started to become a serious inconvenience.

not sure if it matters but my drive belt also squeaks a bit as well.

do i need to replace the fuel filter (again), the battery? is there sedement in the gas tank?

any help or insight would be deeply appreciated.

This one is an easy one, buy a new battery. Preferably a gell style battery as it needs minimal maintenance, and lasts twice as long a conventional batterys. I think your idle problem will also be solved when you do this. If not, adjust your idle screw to a higher RPM

DrElectrics is right on the battery. Dodge does not want to idle when the battery is bad. But do not adjust the idle in any way. You will be creating more problems for yourself.

Being way2old is why I need help from younger minds
