Is it worth it to fix my 2000 contour? HELP Sign In

Hi, I have been going through hell with this piece of crap(2000 ford contour v6) for over a year now, its been jumping and stuff while i drive, the rpms go way up then will go back down. First i was told it was some kind of sensor that needed to be replaced and would cost over $400. They said it would run for a while like that, so i never got it fixed, now its doing it more often and also going through gas like crazy, and when i go to go in reverse it just sits there and then will JUMPback into gear all the sudden and make a loud sound. So i took it to a mechanic the other day he put it on computer and it came up as a bad range sensor..and also the catalytic converter ,he also told me the reason it shifts so hard is the torque converter is bad and that is very expensive to have replaced, and he said my transmission fluid needs to be flushed asap, so he did somethin, cleared it, my check engine light went off the rest of that day the car drove excellent as far as the jumping and stuff while driving, i was so happy i thought that was finally fixed, but the next day check engine light came back on, and its doing it all over again..i dont know what to do , what to try to have replaced, fixed, or if i should just junk it and try and get another piece of crap that may be more problems? I am a mail carrier and i cant afford to be with no car or to get stalled somewhere, can ANYONe tell me what i should do? Thanks my email is sfemme24@yahoo.com

Not directed at you sfemme24

The last post by DanO was ignorant and he used inappropiate language towards you .
His comments were in no way helpful at all.
So they were deleted.

Sorry for the confusion

Hang in there

Someone will offer some real help soon

Hi,

Very interesting that it ran well when "check engine" light was reset. Now I would get a complete code reading and really think that will lead to one common item. It can run well when reset so that suggests most items are working properly.

Sorry for the confusion with a rotten post that wasn't helpful. JIM N corrected that - we don't allow profanity or abusive intent. Problems of the sort with the forum are rare and we aim to keep it that wayWink

well it all depends on your financial situation, is the car in good shape otherwise, is it a rust bucket? if you can easily afford another car and dont have any attatchment to this contour, then thats an option you have to weigh.

the way i look at it is, it will cost you say 750.00 to get your car running top notch or you can spend 5-8 grand on another used car with a whole different set of problems or yet spend 25-30 thousand on a brand new car
