Hi, In a four-stroke engine, do the inlet and exhaust valves open and close mechanically or electronically (as in, is there some computer software electronically controlling the valves)? I am learning about how engines work and was a little confused about the valves. Thanks!

That is a good question. Most engines you'll see will use a mechanical way of opening the valves. "Google" valve train and there is lots of information on that. On some experimental engines electrical solenoid operated valves and pneumatic valves are used. Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
