Idle increased after throttle body cleaning.

'94 Toyota Paseo, 1.5L, 186,000 miles. This past weekend I cleaned my throttle body (using Seafoam) to take care of a stalling problem. I also tried cleaning into the IACV hole just before the butterfly valve. It seemed to work somewhat. However my idle increased to about 1700 RPM. I used the jumper to the E1 and TE1 diagnostics, and got the idle to about 1200-1400 RPM...which is still too high. What could have possibly gone wrong? I didn't disconnect anything other than my airbox to access the throttle body. I've checked all my vacuum lines, and everything seems to be working fine. Is it possible that my IACV is slightly stuck open, causing the high idle? Thanks, Joe

It's possible that the IAC is open.. try unplugging it and see if idle goes down.. Could also be a vacuum leak. I take it the idle was fine before you cleaned the TB?

unplug it while it's running and see if idle goes down.

Did you disassemble anything when you did this cleaning? ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ We offer help in answering questions, clarifying things or giving advice but we are not a substitute for an on-site inspection by a professional.

Sure sounds like you created an air leak somewhere in the process. With that kind of mileage, you could just have a worn out throttle body that doesn't close real tight or move very smoothly any more. Try getting some penetrating oil and lubing up the throttle shafts and the throttle bore where the throttle plate makes contact and see if that lets it settle and seal a little better.

That's my point. it may be so worn that it is not seating correctly any more. Cleaning all the dirt away brought it to light.
