I put kerosene in my truck on accident, now it wont start. please help if you can Sign In

hey,
i have a 1997 Dodge Dakota sport with a v-8 engine that won't start. About four days ago i was running low on gas and put about three gallons of kerosene in my tank without knowing it. I ran the truck for about fifteen to twenty miles, but i knew somthing was wrong. The engine was running hotter than normal and rattling quite a bit. As the engine progressivly got hotter i pulled over and turned the engine off. After that it would start but only occasionally. i had it towed home and now it wont start at all. After figuring out that i put kerosene in the truck i drained the tank and put new gas in it, changed the spark plugs, changed the distributor cap, changed the roder button, and i changed the coil. I dont really know much about engines so after doing all that im at a loss. Any help in the right direction would be much appreciated.

thanks

Did you change the fuel filter?

In addition to Desi's suggestion. You still have kerosene it the lines and fuel rail.

It would really be a good idea to take the lines & rail apart and blow them out. Even doing that there is still some kerosene left that is going to have to be "used" be for the good gas gets to the injectors....

You may have to try to help it run for a bit with carb clean or whatever you can but the best option here would be to let a shop clean out the lines and run some injector cleaner thru the rail & injector to clean them out as good as possible............
