Well I don't know if it's going to be the starter or not. I mean I think it's either the starter or the solenoid. My question is should I just go ahead and change both out at the same time or actually try the solenoid first and if that doesn't work then go with the starter. By the way my car won't crank. It's not the battery as I've had that tested plus it will crank once and a while meaning that it's random when it does crank. Make: Hyundai Model: Elantra GT Year: 2003 Engine: 2.0 L Transmission: Manual

Before you start changing parts you should confirm who’s not doing there job. Because there’s more to the starting electrical circuit then just the starter motor or the solenoid on the top of the starter. Things like the ignition switch, clutch position switch, the starter relay in the under hood fuse/relay box and if by chance this vehicle came with a factory alarm system; it’ll have a “burglar alarm relay” that also could be causing an intermittent no crank. The next time the thing will not crank, try testing the smaller red wire at the starter solenoid for power, while the ignition is held in the start position. If there’s no power there then your starter & starter solenoid are likely ok. From there you’ll have to work backwards through the system until you find the cause. Dan. Canadian "EH"
