Year of vehicle: 2003
Make of vehicle (Ford/ Chevrolet): Chevy
Model of vehicle ( Taurus/ Cavalier): Venture
Engine size (2.0/ 5.7): will post soon
Mileage/Kilometers: 116,429

OK, So i bought this van a few months ago and its been in and out of the shop constantly, and the problem its having as is follows:

The temp. gauge on the dash keeps going over into the red saying that its over heating, and the light comes on saying its over heating, when its obviously not since i only drive it maybe out my driveway and it starts doing it. After driving it maybe 5 miles it starts to lose power and you can only go like 25-35. Ive had the Thermometer replace, the water pump replaced, the transmission fluid flushed and a Pressure test done, and nothing has fixed it and i've been to a few people and none of them seem to have a head on their shoulder about it. this morning though i opened the hood and a found a tube that had been melted off that says:

EVAP Service Port 1 PSI Maximum regulated

I'm wondering if that might be causing the problem, like when i put my thumb up to the hose end thats melted i can feel a slight pressure of air coming out of it

So, the gauge is telling you that it's overheating. You have arbitrarily decided that isn't true and you continue to drive it until it won't go over 25MPH?

Have I got that right?

That melted hose is just for the EVAP system, an emmisions control to stop the release of raw gas fumes from the tank to the air. As for the rest of the info, WTF!!!!! Are you this skeptical about everything? The reason they have the temp gauge and the aptly named idiot light is so you shut the car down. If you ignore that, the motor turns into Hiroshima and blows up, as yours is about to do. Thats why it will barely get out of its own way, because its about to completely meld down and make a very nifty and expensive boat anchor. Get a bicycle or some good shoes, you have no business in a car. Perhaps try the Amish lifesyle, those guys seem pretty happy. But remember to feed the horse or it will end up like your van.

BigPoppy, its more than hilarious, its sad. HT and I are the mechanics who get yelled at and accused of thievery when the estimate comes up to the same people who do this stuff. We're the bad guys because we tell it like it is. This man made a somewhat expensive repair into one than exceeds what his car is worth. He did so with ignorance and arrogance. Didn't verify a single thing and ignored an idiot light. Thats why they are called idiot lights. I'm glad you got a laugh out of it, it shows that you have more common sense than this man and should you see these lights on your car you will immediately stop and investigate the issue. If you cannot find it yourself you would allow a qualified man with the proper tools to do so for you. Its cheaper in the long run. Glad you enjoy the forum and looking forward to any help I can be with your own can.
