Help identifying engine

92 gmc sonoma 4wd
apparently it's engine has been replaced because the original one was fuel injected.
I'm trying to get a new air filter housing because it is missing one.
Any help identifying the engine would be appreciated.

Mr.Clean; Are you sure that this is a carburetor? Or, a TBI (throttle body injection)? TBI 'looks' similar to a carburetor.
If someone has changed it over to a carb, I'd think that you'd be having more issues than just an air cleaner.
This vehicle should have come with a 2.5L 4cyl. or a 4.3L V6.

hmmm, i guess maybe it is a tbi, because I've got a carb sitting and its got spring and all that which the "TBI" does not have I guess.
Well in that case I wonder which parts i need to give it clean air.

Mr. Clean; There are a kizzilion of these in the wrecking yards. Shouldn't be a problem finding what you need.

As Loren pointed out, what you have is TBI fuel injection, not a carb. It should have 2 fuel injectors sitting right on top of it pointing down the throat.

Hi again, thanks for the info.
I've been calling around to used parts places and I cant seem to find anyone that has the air cleaner part.
I'm not sure if I've been using the right part name for it.
Air cleaner housing.
Throttle body hat.
I'm also unsure to if I can get the "assembly" off a different truck.
So I basically need to know what its official part name is.

Air filter housing works, Intake housing will work also.

Ok so tech support said I could use the first thing on that list.
But what he couldn't answer is how I would go about mounting it.
I notice the TBI has a mounting ring outside of it.
He couldn't tell me if I would need additional hardware or whatnot.
I just want to put some kind of filter on there to keep the engine clean.
And again thank you so much for your help.
Also would it be a good idea to do some kind of cleaning treatment while it is off.
I know it's been driven some without a filter.

Those are just universal air cleaners made for carburetors, not fuel injection.
You justr need to go to a junkyard and get the setup that belongs on your truck.

I'm having a hell of a time finding the air intake housing. Anyone know if I can replace that with another vehicle or if i could make one. Or something. Is it that bad if I decide to run it without one. So far I can hear clicking of the valves, not bad, but it's there. Gonna change the oil a few times.
