Help advise needed! VW Golf auto start up problem Sign In

Hi
I have an 1985 Golf CL auto.
I checked the oil this morning which was fine & clean. Maybe 250 miles since last oil change.
I restarted the engine after about a 30 min drive. It started but then repeatedly died on me as soon as I put it into drive.
The oil and battery warning lights also come on.
Can you give me any idea as to why?
It might be that a cable has shorted and so electrical.

The oil and battery lights would come on any time the key is in run position and the engine is not running. Why it stalls is a mystery but you could check battery cable wires at both ends and if any wires that move when the gear is shifted that might be loose or chafing and only do it when the engine moves just a certain way. You can see with the hood open that the engine tilts a little when you go into drive or reverse,
