Help?? Smoke coming from AC vents, Mercedes Sign In

Good morning. 1991 Mercedes 420 SEL with 190K miles. Just purchased. Remarkably good condition. Fluid levels, oil pressure, guages, all indicate normal conditions. Drove it 200 miles from Houston to San Antonio with no issues, other than a bit shaky a few times at idle. Here's the problem:

My daughter drove it last night and reported smoke coming from the AC vents just prior to the vehicle stalling. Said the smoke had a slight burning odor. Being over cautious, she had the car towed home.

Any immediate thoughts or ideas? I don't think I bought a lemon or a car with a bad engine... my gut feeling says it's something workable, not major. Thanks in advance for ANY and ALL help!

Then exactly what is your gut telling you is wrong with it? You already know how hard it's going to be to fix, then you must already know what is wrong.

Was it an oil burning smell, an electrical burning smell, or paper burning smell? Have you been able to duplicate the stalling concern?

These are not my cars ever and turned them away except two in career. Both the stall and odor (smoke?) out vents like this are no doubt related. Just my wild guess is to glance around for anything unusual underhood for starters.

No joke last MB I had to check out had no fuel (~1972 -- SL thing) and did find it had a bad fuel pump relay. $300 bucks new! You can have that. Bone yard gave me 3 for free though and it worked?

Hammer, the "gut feeling" comes from the fact that I drove it 200 miles without any issues, nothing went wrong gradually, and the guages were constant during the whole trip. I want to guess that it's something that went wrong suddenly like a fuse or relay. I will certainly update everyone when I get the results, and thanks again for the whole forum, really enjoying it.

#1 - I personally apologize if my post sounded offensive in any way. My problem was over the years (long retired) was parts were so frequently dealer only and lack of info or any special tools so even my best friends I had to say I couldn't afford to take these on and a few other brands.

Well designed cars without question in most aspects. One more guess is just maybe if fan speed doesn't work properly for heat or A/C the problem is there. Fan motor or some resistor - can't know, no info at all on these but good luck,

Tom
