HELP! Need to change an engine.

I have a 1995 Mitsubishi Eclipse RS, with a 2.0 DOHC non-turbo, 5-speed transmission. The motor blew so I need to change an engine. Can I remove the engine from the top, or do I have to go through the hassle of using a lift and removing the transmission and motor both at the same time? All help is greatly appreciated!

I actually haven’t done one of these; so I’m just going by the service manual. It says that the transmission needs to be removed first and then the engine; it must be a clearance issue. The transmission is removed from underneath and the engine from the top. You’ll need to raise the vehicle high enough so that the trans can be removed. You’ll also need some form of support device to hold the engine in position until you’re ready to remove it. I would suggest you to get your hands on a service manual and read up on this before you attempt it. Places like All Data and Mitchell will sell you time with their manuals on their web sites. Dan.
