Fuel Injector Help! Sign In

Hello I'm Flickded!

So, I know this isn't an engine to a car. But maybe someone can help me anyway, or point me to a place that can. I've been searching Google/Youtube/Bing/etc for a few days to no avail.

I recently acquired a 1977 Atlas Copco XAS 60 Dd Air Compressor with a Deutz F2L912 Diesel Engine. At the moment, it wont start, and my short-term goal at the moment is to get it to. I've replaced the oil/fuel/battery/etc and it still wont start. I've noticed the fuel injectors are clogged, and I cant find anything on how to remove them. Any help would be appreciated. I can give more information on the engine as needed, as well as pictures as needed.

Re: Fuel Injector Help! Sign In

How do you know your injectors are clogged? This should be a mechanically injected engine, and the injection pump needs to develop thousands of pounds of pressure to offseat the spring in the injectors.

You should really get ahold of a factory shop manual for this engine if you are going to try to work on it. You can't just unbolt/ bolt back in components in the fuel system on this. If you pull the injectors to have them tested, you need to run the overhead when you install it. Your injection pump must be timed correctly, which requires many times a special tool to do so.

Have you replaced the fuel filters? Did you prime the system after doing so? This isn't like a gas engine, where if it runs out of gas you can get it back up and running again without work. Your lines through the injection pump and up to the injectors need to get bled out or you will not build up enough pressure to offseat the injectors to allow fuel to spray.

Re: Fuel Injector Help! Sign In

Fuel filters have been cleaned out and primed. Fuel System was purged of all air, and have good pressure up to injector. which leads me to believe that the injectors are clogged. is there a way to check fuel pressure on this system. My belief that the injectors are clogged is due to the fact that the unit has been sitting unused for seven years. She turns over strong but will not fire. I have tried ether in a small amount I get some smoke from exhaust, and some popping but no start.

Re: Fuel Injector Help! Sign In

It was a good question and yes I am being sarcastic. Playing around with the high side of the diesel fuel system is dangerous if you don't know what your doing. If you don't have the proper tools or knowledge to test the components of this engine, you should leave it to the pros. When it comes to repairing vehicles you don't make assumptions. You test components you suspect are bad using the proper testing methods and procedures. Short cutting or using improper methods can get you into trouble really quick.

Use of foul language is not authorized in this forum, so this is your first and last warning.

Now that all the sarcasm is out of the way are you able to provide any helpful information. We are dealing with a 2 cylinder diesel air compressor. Do you have any input or suggestions on how to deal with this problem.

Re: Fuel Injector Help! Sign In

I think the suggestion was already made to you. What is the fuel pressure to the injectors? If you're looking for a magic pill that will get it running, you won't find that here.
