Ford escort zx2 died after oil change Sign In

My 99 ford escort zx2 was quite overdue for an oil change, but wasnt having any issues that I could see or hear. I took it to change the oil today, and on the way home, within 30 miles, the car started making a rattling noise in the engine when I accelerated. It started decreasing speed, and I decided to pull over just as it died. It won't start, and has oil leaking from underneath. When checking the oil, the dipstick reads that it's not really low, but no clue how many miles it had been leaking oil. Any advice or opinions?

It has about 160k miles, but I don't know engine size.

I will add that when the car died, it was smoking quite a bit and smelled very hot. However the engine temp inside the car didn't read that it was overheating.

The only advice I can give you is to be a little more conscientious about maintenance after you replace the motor.

Well I won't replace the motor, not worth it.but my question is, what would have caused it to die, since it wasn't having issues before the oil change.

Not changing oil regularly is about the fastest way known to kill an engine. It probably had a sludge buildup and the detergent in the fresh oil loosened it up and it plugged oil passages, starving the engine of lubrication.

Without being able to see the car, it's impossible to take what happened.
The fact there is still oil in the engine kind of lets the shop that did the work off the hook. Usually if its a problem related to the LOF work the car will lose all the oil.

But like I said we need to see the car.

The best bet work be to take it to another shop and have them check it. If it has any thing to do with the work that was done they should be able to tell and you could take it from there

Check your coolant . Could have had a major failure such as lower hose . Temp gage will not have had time to show a temp increase if water left quicky . Won't register hot when sitting in a empty water jacket ,just air temp.
