Ford Truck eating the belt when engine is started Sign In

1999 Ford F350 truck manual transmisson is chewing a quarter of inch of belt.put new on it done thesame thing within 15 minutes of engine running

 check the pulley alignment. with the belt off spin the accessory pulleys - are they, spinning- smoothly- true?

The ac pulley seems different than the others.It still turns though

Pulleys must be about in perfect plane.


Other and quite rare is Ford did make just a few belts with a different # of grooves like 6 or 7 and the wrong one would chew up right away. I think older than this and on the 4.6 engine only? Count and look that belts are matching pulleys if all else fails. Rare as said for that,

Take the belt off and check all the rotating assemblies, especially idler or tensioner pulleys. If the bearing is going out on one of them it will put the belt at an angle and shred it. Also look at the angle of the tensioner itself. If it is coming apart it will do the same thing.
