Ford KA 1999 - Engine turns down after driving a while and going slow Sign In

Year: 1999 - 2000. not sure
Company:Ford
model: KA
engine: 1000 cc
kilometers: Unknown

Hi , I'm really amateur regarding cars.

6 months ago I bought this ford KA and it seems the seller got rid of a problem selling it to me cheap.

The problem:

After driving a while, let's say 30 minutes , the car start failing, the engine shuts down when going slow and turning the wheels. For example I'm in a corner, and I slow down the speed, and then I turn the wheels, then the car stops.
After that, when I start again the car, I need to accelerate to a higher RPM for a while (let's say 7 or 10 seconds) before start moving the car, because else, the engine gets shut down again.

In other words, I can't manipulate the car properly when I have been driving for a while as it start turning off when changing wheels directions. It is a pain when I arrived to a place and park the car, after drinving a while and two cars get in front and back from mine, because I can't get out as I can't turn the wheels as the engine turns off.

If a let the car get cool (lets say one hour) it works fine again for some minutes and the problem comeback.

As soon as I started experiencing the issues I went to a senior mechanic guy who, tried many things, and I have spent a lot o money but the issues were not resolved.

The mechanic tested many things, we changed the MAF by a new one, he told me he calibrated the engine, and well yes, the car works fine the first half our.

Mechanic does not knows what could be the problem.

So I learned to live with that, but it is really unconfortable. Also I realized about a few more things related to this car

Other issues I have recognized:

- Oil leak from engine, there is a little oil leak.
- After experiencing the issues, and starting again the car, and accelerate it to higher RPMs for a while, the car works again (for a while) and but when accelerating (sometimes) the car will loose power suddenly, just as if I release the accelerator, if I push it to max, nothing will happen for some seconds, and after that it will start working normal again.

- Also, I have to change the cooling liquid (refrigeration) every month, or less because when I review, it is almos empty. So all time, I have to look at refrigetarion liquid. And yes, it seems the engine gets very hot after running a while.

- Another one, it seems that when electronic components are on, the engine fails more. For example, I the engine is on and I turn on the lights, I can hear how the engine slows down the RPMs a little bit.

- And finally, when the problem starts and I turn on the engine, get high RPM by accelerating , and then without moving the car, I just turn the wheels direction there is a loud sound from the engine belt and then the engine gets down again.

Based in all those synthons what do you think the problem is? I'm asking here because my mechanic don't now how to solve this and he is a experienced one.

I think it is a refrigeration issue mixed with an electrical issue, but I would like to have your opinions and if you can tell me about any home tests so I can identify the reason /reasons I will really appreciate it.

Thank you in advance

So you took it to a place to diagnose it and nothing helped or found! You need a better place and tech, code reading, pressure testing and a compression test with results printed. Exhaust back pressure test and whatever it takes to declare this engine is worth fixing or at least know the problems you face and costs about it.

They don't sell this in the US at all that I know of and don't know who makes the car mostly or just components for it?

Doesn't really matter as you just need to know now what you have to work with by the right place and tech so you can decide what to do about it now,
