Ford Fiesta - Revving on it's own? Sign In

That's right. When I'm slowing down to stop, my foot on the brake and not on the accelerator, the car starts revving on it's own. As soon as I get back in gear, it calms down again, until the next time I come to a halt.

It's also overheating, the radiator's fine, it's not leaking. But the water is boiling on a short run. Would that be related to the revving I mentioned above.

It's a Ford Fiesta 1.1L, 2000 reg with 27,000 miles on the clock.

I'm not getting a warning to say the thermostat is malfunctioning. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Trying to make the connection of the reving and engine overheat.?? You must check and know that it's full of coolant at its radiator and if not where did it go??

You can check a thermostat by grabbing the upper radiator hose near radiator as the car warms up you can feel the heat as the thermostat opens. If it's full of air it screws up and temp sensors may not get proper info to the computer and keep telling the engine is still cold. If it does this right away when cold (the over reving) then there's a different problem and you may have two going on here.

Don't let it over rev as that will cause big trouble, T

Funny thing my cars engine started revving this morning as well.... for no reason.... it was sudden and about 3 miles of driving.

Which if my coolant is low this would make sense since it would take a few miles of driving to get the engine temps up. Could this also be any thing else such as a vaccum line or an air leak?
