so starting the truck it happens about every third day of a stuggle to start. It isn't the sound that you would hear normally with a starter. We think it is the starter though.

So we can work on this week.

Anyone know what a starter going out sounds like on the F250 2001 4X4?

To me it sounds like the flywheel is not catching....it takes a few seconds when it happens to start. It has always started. does the starter being replaced include the fly wheel? Does the fly wheel included in the starter when you buy it for this truck?

My husband is working on it though. I am just asking for my own knowledge, and the sound was not like a starter to me in the past with another older GMC truck.

Which engine? If the noise is coming from the starter, your hubby should pull the starter off and inspect the starter drive and the teeth on the flywheel. If that looks good, bench test the starter. Some auto part stores can test the starter for you also.

The starter motor doesn't come with the flywheel and a flywheel doesn't come with a starter motor. They are sold separately.

Since we volunteer our time and knowledge, we ask for you to please follow up when a problem is resolved.
