For no rhyme or reason this van stops or wont start Sign In

Hello, I have a 1994 dodge D-250 van, V8-318 engine, For no rhyme or reason this van stops or wont start one time and fine the next, Sometimes I can get drive it 50 miles or more with NO trouble, The next time I cannot get out of the driveway. I mean it has quit on me while driving down the highway,. after a few hours it started up again, Then the next morning it wouldnt start, One day it starts and one day it dont, I didnt think it was going to start again.
Then a few days later I drove it to Florida and back 60 miles round trip, NO problems Then the next morning it wouldnt start, tried everything, finally it started and I left it idling in the drive way and it quit on me again, Nothing I have done will make it start again. I am completely stumped by this van, I have worked on cars most of my life and I am clueless on this one............ Can you offer me any suggestions?
Thank you in advance for any help you can give me,

I will say I dont think its fuel related.........

Is it cranking normally but just not starting? If cranking check for spark and take fuel pressure reading or try to prime it if you can - if it reacts then fuel is the issue and go from what's missing,

Hi Tom, I tried priming it, Thats not it, I think its electrical, brain?
it spins great, It just appears to not be getting spark.......This thing has me completely baffled,
I spent a lot of my life working in a garage but when they started putting brains in these cars that eliminated my brain. Its just the sometimes it does and sometimes it dont. It does have a throttle body of course, and ita a low mileage van in excellent condition, excellent maintenance record, Could it be the brain? does it have a brain?
Thankyou for your input

Try to get a code reading to help pin it down. Even without a CEL on it may have some info to help.

The brains left the engineering dept and they put them in cars nowCrazy!

There could be several things disallowing spark. Crank position sensor - plain old crack in coil(s) and old usual probs like that, some faulty safety that shuts engine off on purpose as if in an accident, or simple loose wiring connections. Hard to say if you don't get some time with it down to follow what should be happening where,

Hello again Tom, Can that Crank position sensor work sometimes and sometimes not?

The hot and cold doesnt seem to have any bearing on it at all.

I guess I will get a chilton or haynes., which do you recommend?

Before you get a manual - try this link for info from AutoZone..........

http://www.autozone.com/...eId=0900c15280070dad

I don't put a lot of faith in the cheap books out there and AZ does realease a fair amount of data for use - hoping you'll buy from them of course.

AllData is no doubt a better and more comprehensive guide that you download for about $25 bucks if you want more info at your beck and call.

Codes could be helpful if possible if only a direction and so could that link.

Yes - sensors can be erratic, temp or moisture sensitive. I can't say the chances for this particular vehicle vs any other but someone here might chime in with a liklyhood or common fault with them.

Hate to see anyone just throw parts at something without some good info that it is in fact the trouble and I just can't say with what I know for this right now,

Crank sensors on Chrys. products (including Jeep) are a very common problem. They are quite inexpensive and usually easy to replace. My '04 had the same problem. No codes. Would just die, then restart. We've replaced a ton of them for the same symptoms...Really tough, nearly impossible to get them to act up in the shop.
