Also, hesitates when pressing gas, like stalling. Dealer mechanic thought the injectors were the problem, later said it would not fix the problem. With out hearing it, the knocking could be anything.... Is the check engine light on? They blow out and wipe out the coil. If a plug has loosened up in the head, that would give a knocking noise, if the coil was taken out, that would give a hesitation.
