Escort Wagon Burning Gas Fast Sign In

I'm going through a tank of gas in just a day or two. No check engine light and tuneups have been done on a regular bases.

Car runs fine and I smell NO fuel and see NO fuel leaks.

I herd that this could be caused by a bad speed sensor???

Any ideas?

ThanksSmile

dalbring; Nope, a speed sensor won't cause a drastic drop in fuel economy. They can cause eratic transmission shifting, which could affect mpg, but not that significant. And, usually, you'll notice problems with the speedometer as well. What year and engine does the Escort have?
There are several things that come to mind; Faulty fuel pressure regulator, Oxygen sensor, MAP sensor, engine problem, ect. If this is a pre '96 model, have the trouble codes pulled as they won't always set a CEL. If it's '96 and newer, yes, the CEL should be illuminated but don't rely on it. Have the codes pulled, regardless. Most parts stores will pull the codes for you. Don't let them sell you any parts, yet. Post the codes here and we'll go from there.
