Engine starts and shuts off immediately Sign In

I changed the engine in a 2003 Toyota Corolla. The engine will start but then shuts off after a few seconds. I have changed all the sensors, intake, manifold....I'm not understanding why it's doing this. It's getting air, fuel and spark. There are no codes coming from any diagnostic tool....I need help!!

Are there any security lights on or flashing when you try to start it?

I would check the fuel pressure with as gauge during the failure.

You don't need a fitting to test the fuel pressure. They have adapters for that. You need to test the pressure.

For what all those sensors cost you could've bought a new fuel pressure tester kit that comes with all the adapters needed to tee into this system and give you a reading. Now you just have a money pit. Don't throw parts at it without being able to condemn them bad through testing. By no codes, do you mean the scanner says that the ecm has absolutely no codes stored or that it will not communicate?

Just curious. Is this a reman, salvage, or new engine? Is the engine you replaced from the same year vehicle? Why was the engine replaced?

it's a salvaged motor....i work at a garage and it's a customers car....i can't hook a pressure gauge to the fuel rail b/c there is no valve to hook a gauge to it...i have to make one....the engine was rapping b/c the customer ran the car out of oil and blew it....the sensors aren't brand new they came off the engine that i used to drive the car in there with....i just don't understand it's getting gas to start the engine but it wont run....how can it go bad from just sitting???

How long did this sit between the motor being blown and the new engine being put in? If more than a month or two the ethanol in the tank will be turning into pure crap. It has less than half the storage life of gasoline. That fuel pressure reading will really be needed.
