Engine stalls, Then will not start

I have 1996 GMC ½ ton pickup with 138,000 miles. One day while driving the truck just quit and would not start. It was turning over but sounded like it was not getting gas. Sprayed quick starter in the carburetor and it would start but quit quickly. I had it towed to a repair shop and when we took it off the truck it started. The mechanic checked out the fuel pressure and other things and could not find anything wrong. I drove home ok but for the next several of month the same thing would happen it would quit and not restart. It would run a month or two between incidents. The way I could start it was by pressing the valve where you check the fuel pressure. Fuel would squirt out and then the truck would start. Took it to a mechanic and he said he could find nothing wrong. He recommended changing some computer chip that told the engine when to fire (not sure I said that correctly.) He would not guarantee that was the problem. Anyway he changed the chip and the truck ran for about 4 months, but now it is doing the same thing. It will start when I release some fuel from the valve and work for a couple of weeks. Been to three different mechanics and no one can find anything wrong. Of course it will not stop working while the mechanics is around. Any ideas, other that always travelling with a mechanic?

Don't really no what to say, it sounds as if your fuel system may be vapor locking. You may have a vapor hose stopped up or something. Just a wild guess hope you find your problem.

Thanks for the replies. I failed to mention some of the other things that have been tried to solve the problem. The Fuel filter has been replaced; the wiring harness to the fuel pump, and the relay has been replaced. The computer shows no error codes. The mechanics have told me that the injectors are working correctly. I’ll try the injector cleaner. Don’t know what else to do. I did talk to the mechanics about a vapor lock and they said that was not the problem.
