I have a 1982 Chevy K10 4x4 pickup truck with a 5.0L 305 V8 engine in it. This engine is NOT the original engine that was in the truck. It initially had a diesel motor in, but the previous owner had pulled that motor (stated the diesel motor went out) and had placed a 5.7L 350 V8 in. The 350 motor had seized and I pulled that one out and got a used 5.0L 305 V8 motor from a U-Pull It junk yard. The motor has run GREAT until recently. Due to getting it from a junk yard, I am unsure how many miles are actually on this motor, but it has run strong for me since I put it in back in January of 2012. Well, recently when trying to drive on roads with higher speed limits, 45+, I have been having problems where the motor starts to sputter like its running out of gas, or not getting enough fuel pressure into the carb. I was told by a friend to try replacing the fuel filter. So, to test it before I went and bout the new fuel filter, I pulled the old fuel filter out and went for a quick test drive. I had my truck up to 60 MPH with no problems. So, I went to the local auto parts store and bought a new fuel filter, the one that goes right into the carb. The truck has run fine, even over 55 MPH for the last couple days. Now, it started again. I find it hard to believe that the fuel filter would need replaced again since I just changed it. Is there any other options on what could be causing this to happen? Maybe a bad fuel pump? Maybe something electrical? I am no mechanic by any means and all the help would be greatly appreciated. I need this truck for work, which I have to take a highway with a posted 65 MPH speed limit next week.

Yes, it IS quite possible the new fuel filter has clogged. Do you know the condition of the gas tank? Was it replaced when they converted it from diesel? Possibly contaminates lingering in the fuel tank. Has the truck sat for any great length of time? The fuel filter you installed sounds like it may be smaller than an in-line factory filter. Just some ideas/ things to go by. Good luck and maybe someone else on the board has some better ideas.

Since a new fuel filter solved this for a while I'd do another but see what type of dirt you can get out of it. If a rusty gas tank it will just keep happening,
